Anemone (Japanese)
|
|
The name anemone comes from the Greek meaning wind - thus the descriptive name 'windflower'. Japanese anemones grow 18 - 36" tall with an indeterminate spread. They begin their show in late summer and continue to bloom until frost. The colours range from white to pink and red.Varieties we carry: Sylvestris, Robustissima, Whirlwind, Prinz Heinrich, Honorine Jobert, Pamina. |
Site Location:
Plant Japanese anemones in sun or partial shade. They prefer moist, fertile soil. Avoid planting in sites where puddles form from snow melt in spring. A location protected from frost will prolong the bloom time.Zone 4-8. |
Our Experience:
One of the experts at Spencer's Garden Center has had tremendous success planting Japanese anemones against a rock wall and a large stone. They looked beautiful swaying in the wind. We suggest "whirlwind" with semi-double white flowers and "Robistissima" with lovely single pink blooms. Both varieties bloom early enough to give a great show in the Shelburne area of south western Nova Scotia. |
